I use the pokeyellow disassembly for it's audio engine and I transcribe midi notes by hand to the asm format, no special converter tools involved. It's tough work but I enjoy it.

for me it's breddy easy, just take a song that's none too complex, have a midi of it (many different ways of acquiring), isolate the most important leads and harmonies, identify which ones carry the most weight at what times, mix and match as you so please, then painstakingly write down each note in pokered format

it's ass trying to compress them, and yes I do try to compress the file by hand, i'd prefer keeping whatever song I transcribe about the same size or smaller than the song I'm trying to replace

These are pretty great. Normally a lot of the "8-bit demix" stuff on Youtube is pretty shit but these are super accurate the GB games. Good work

Thanks. I run all the music through the actual GB game audio engine, hence why its so accurate-- It's actually in the game

It shows. The only way to really understand how to make GB music is to understand the very limitations the developers themselves had to deal with.

Agreed. I have some earlier remixes on my channel that are just midis with soundfonts and they not only sound different but just feel different as well. I'm honestly not really proud of them and can't stand to listen to them. Once you've gone real hardware it's impossible to go back lmao
