It was probably just a playful uncle TV editor of Pokémon Anime Series, who just idioticaly called these girls in Gary's car as his 'girlfriends'... And, how can a 10 .y.o. boy even has multiples girlfriends at once? Having multiple girlfriends isn't even legal. As in marriage, it can't have more than two people.
