HMchads, I kneel. Why would anyone pass up the chance to conquer nature with your totally visible bros? There is truly no greater sense of adventure than watching cutscenes play out and gimping your movesets.

Just change the learnsets and have multiple "battle rulesets." For example criminals or punks don't follow any rules so neither should you, go ahead and use every move in your arsenal. But Gym leaders, Gym trainers, etc use "First four move" rulesets.

HM's WOULD be superior if they actually showed your bros doing the action. or if the moves were actually any good other than surf & waterfall & occasionally fly.
better yet- we could turn them into "skills," so that they can still be our bros helping out without gimping a move slot.

They could just keep the map design elements that HMs were a part of like LGPE did but without the tedium.
It's not like the series was already doing that by Gen 3 or anything. Certainly not...
Why are Alolasomes so afraid of being able to play the game? Did Unova and Kalos really beat you that hard by proving a game can be linear and fun?

I know, right?

But the last proper implementation of HMs (as Secret Techniques) didn't even have cutscenes or moveset restrictions.
It's almost like you're creating an imaginary enemy just to try and prove them wrong in a desperate attempt to make Gens 7 and 8 proper look better when in actuality peoples' complaints with those games have nothing to do with removing HMs and everything to do with removing the agency players had in progressing the game.
