I did grow up with pokemon red, blue, and yellow on gameboy color and I watched pokemon the first movie and pokemon 2000 religiously as child. My older brothers had tons of the wotc era cards in box and I would take base set charizard, blastoise and venusaur to school and everyone was jealous I had them. I only ever remember getting a few packs as a kid and I remember my great grandma buying me the team rocket returns tyranitar deck back in like 05 and that was the last time I got pokemon cards until I bought a few starter decks to mess around with last year. Then those mcdonalds promos got me into collecting them for the art and I've been buying cards like crazy.
Am I not a real collector because I just got back into it? I grew up with pokemon and looking at the cards brings back great memories.
I definitely regret not getting into collecting the cards ten years ago when I could have gotten a lot of shit for cheaper, but oh well.
