Currently playing through Renegade Platinum
The EV/EXP training NPC in Solaceon Town is pretty nice, especially for catching up lower level Pokemon up to speed
I'm enjoying it a lot so far, having to (almost) never worry about HMs is a huge plus, and I have Gliscor to take of two of the remaining ones (Fly and Rock Climb)

I'm quite new around here and I don't know if clover teams are allowed in this general (for whatever reason), but here is my current team, I just started the post game (arrived to Innawoods not long ago)

it's pretty neat, the "advanced mode" option lets you pick moves and shows offensive coverage.
No pictures though, only small icons.

Pic related is the team i'm planning for next XY run. Rhydon and Seadra are for postgame trading with Shauna and Diantha, so they evolve on trade.
Might replace solrock with something else though, not sure yet.

Just got Y, first game since I played Plat in 2013 so everything after gen IV is new to me. Regular charizard is the only one I've ever used before

I wish Black2 wasn't so expensive so I could transfer stuff. I have like 15 year old pokemon from gen III sitting on Plat

XY has a very good selection to choose from in general, ironically it makes the way they keep giving you pokemon through story even more irritating.

I know folks have done monotype challenges (ie all one type teams), but has anyone tried "one type" challenges? Meaning every pokemon has a single type, no dual types allowed. They don't need to all be the SAME type, just a single type.

Unless you meant to also use only stab moves i don't see anything very difficult about it, but the idea is nice nevertheless, simply because i've always liked monotype pokemon.

Coverage is surprisingly thin on many monotypes. Additionally, lack of STAB makes a number of Pokemon/moves require substantially more effort to beat the game without a lot of grinding.

As with all challenges, it is as challenging as you make it. If you map out all the strongest monotypes in a region, you'll steamroll. But if you're just trundling through the game, it can be a fun thought challenge.

All you’d need to do is have 6 Pokémon who cover each other well just like any other team. You’d have a point if most Trainers had coverage and not just level up moves (or were a challenge at all). Unless you’re purposely using shit like Unown (which at that point you might as well be calling it a shitmon run) I could point you to at least 2 coverage moves that will suffice almost any Pokémon. Not trying to say it’s not interesting but compared to other challenge runs, it’s pretty meh.

Playing diamond. Battles are painfully slow. Theres a noticable pause after inputting a command, after the move hits before the HP bar depletes, after it finishes, for each move by each pokemon. I just finished the snow route and the added hail animation, (with a pause between the "its hailing" message and the actually buffeting, and after... God damn that was excruciating. Every battle took like 10 minutes it felt like. And I get to the gym and since theres only two (2) ice type evolutionary lines in dps sinnoh dex, the gym trainers use... Interesting teams. One had a golduck, a pelipper, and a steelix. The steelix had ice fang I guess, golduck... Was originally from seafoam islands...which had an ice type or two. I hate the limited dex in these games. It doesn't even include all of the new sinnoh pokemon and theres only 150 in total. I hate that they made at least two gym leaders and an e4 member off the top of my head that use types where theres literally only 2 fully evolved mons of said type in the region. I'll never understand why things like seaking and dustox are in the sinnoh dex but not frosslass or magmortar. Fuck. And jesus the surfing speed. I'm never gonna play base dp again. I do like this team though.

Volt White 2, on the way to Mistralton. I haven't thought of a nick for Deino yet. The last Pokemon is going to be Gliscor replacing Zubat.
BW2 are way better than I remembered. BW1 didn't age well, in comparison.

something i did for myself. You pick a team in a version you can trade with, and breed a single egg from every single team member (6 in total).

Then you start the new game and play as fast as possible to the point where you can trade. Trade those 6 eggs over, hatch them in the new file, and play the game with ONLY thos 6. You can never use any other pokemon, doesnt matter if caught, gifts, whatever.
If a pokemon faints, you have to put it onto the pc, and that slot is locked. So every time you let a pokemon be defeated, you party shrinks.

Game over, obvsiously, if you have no pokemon left.
Was pretty fun for platinum last year, went with gible, ralts, absol, chinchou, starly and torchic.
needless to say, i went into the elite 4 with only starly, blaziken and lanturn, and cynthia devastated me. The others died on the way.

With additional rules like "No higher leveled than the next gymleaders team" and stuff like that, pretty fun, and depending on your choice the difficulty ramps up quite nicely.

In the end I only had to use healing items for Lance, didn't use that many anyway, just had to revive Azumaril twice as she was the only one that could hurt the 3 Dragonites.

Just finished diamond and wont ever play it again. I was pretty nervous about facing the elite 4. I was underlevelled, and I had a terrible weakness to ground and no good way of dealing with most of cynthias team. But much to my surprise, (and disappointment) the elite 4 AND Cynthia have seemingly random A.I.! What a fucking joke. Here are some highlights from my e4 challenge.
>aarons heracross using aerial ace on my luxray
>aarons drapion using ice fang on my empoleon (×4 resist)
>berthas hippowdon using crunch against my full hp empoleon
Flint and Lucian didnt make any retarded mistakes.
Then Cynthia... Lmao

Yeah Platinum gives them better AI. My runthrough with the elite 4 and Cynthia was pretty different but kinda predictable They actually switched out some of their pokemon when I started the fight but they're still obviously predictable.

>Can't swap out Bastiodon because nobody on my team can take the earthquake except drifblim who has no defense for the following dragon rush
I lucked out on that fight when I managed to get a light screen up before torterra fainted. I actually got defeated a couple times but I was four to five levels under Cynthia.

This is really a stupid decision I never understood. Super and Good Rod are literally the moment accessible after snorlax. So you either go through the eastern way to fuchsia (which no one ever did) and get good rod, just for a little bit later to get the super rod. Yeah, I always thought this was weird too. I get that there are some pokemon that can only be caught with the Good Rod in certain areas, but most of the time there's no reason to use the Good Rod once you have the Super Rod, which you can easily get before the Good Rod if you just go down route 12 instead of taking the cycling road.
Good Rod should have been accessible in Celadon or Lavender Town so you have reason to use it before getting the Super Rod post-Snorlax

How did you use the palpark before beating the game?

Top is my Yellow team which is my previous playthrough and bottom is my current Crystal playthrough, currently at the lake of rage. The pikachu and butterfree have been sitting on the cartridge untouched since before I even knew how to read so i decided to keep that save file, the mew was gotten via the glitch. jigglypuff is shiny and was hatched from the odd egg, cubone is from the game corner, poliwhirl will be evolved into politoed whenever i feel he needs it

Current progress on this team; ended up trading myself a Magnemite in the process of evolving Machoke just for simplicity, even though I did speedrun through the rocket hideout and the pokemon tower so I could get the super rod (for Shellder) and beat Koga (so I could backtrack to the power plant for Magnemite). Currently going through the power plant anyway just so I can fill out my dex for the exp share and so I can grind Machamp, Dugtrio and Charmeleon a bit.

As someone who did a shiny run in about 6 days with cute charm/rng manipulation, i'd argue that some of those methods make it way too easy for it to be satisfying. I had fun doing it and it's nice having access to so many shiny pokemon, but it definitely wasn't anything worth bragging about because of how super easy it was to do. I'd hate myself if I tried doing it "legit", but it'd definitely feel much more accomplished if I actually managed to pull it off.

Nice team. Those shinies are all top tier. I agree that getting shinies with glitches is less satisfying than doing it legit but for me the end goal is just getting a better color palette and it should not under any circumstances be as rare as it is, seeing as nothing about else about the pokemon changes. I had no qualms about using the coin case glitch when playing silver. I had access to all the shinies from gens 1 and 2 that I always loved, but never hoped or dreamed to ever get by chance, and never had the immense amounts of time and patience to get by legit hunting means. It was fun and magical and like I said the end result is the same.

With legitimacy also comes variance. When I did a shiny badge quest in White 2 I accidentally found a shiny Koffing the very next encounter after finding my Magnemite target. I also ended up using a Krookodile over Yamask because that sparkled first. I've already played with my favorites a dozen times, and if I happen to get them it's fantastic, but if I get something else by chance I get to adapt while still having a nice looking team. I've already bred some of these shiny pokemon on later generations.

Playing a 386 mod for Emerald. Might try to beat the battle tower/pyramid with the tried and tested Swampert+Latios+Metagross combo, but since I can access the legendary dogs, I might try something new. Maybe I could make crocune work?

Team update, I'm about to face Withney. It's pretty much complete. Decided to ditch the snubull for an aipom (won't evolve it).

Yes, but Pidove will be dead weight until fucking Driftveil, 5 badges in, and it'll literally only be able to attack with Fly. My choice of flying Unovamon personally is Sigilyph.

Just finished Pokémon moon and this was my final team. Decided to not evolve my Crabrawler and just threw a evolite on it, it's iron fist ability combined with it's okay attack and move pool keep it useful throughout the entire run despite it being a NFE.
