I've currently been playing Gaia and I enjoyed the early Kalos mons. I have a Gogoat and male Pyroar on my team, and where I'm at is just getting the Glalitite for my Glalie. Been waiting forever to pick it up.

My last completed is Radical Red. I had a good time with that, the challenge was eye-opening and I had fun beating it with the ragtag single team of favorites made up of mons I hadn't used in previous official games.

Also a recommendation to steer the fuck clear of Pokemon Daybreak. It performs like ass, the music doesn't loop properly, the dev's a cunt. And he included an area where you have to fight 3 weather teams then level 100 Primal Dialga without being able to leave and change your party, and it doesn't warn you that you're about to enter a point of no-return. And losing drops you inside the Point of No Return. It's got so many bad design decisions.

Does this thread get to count tabletop games? If so, Pokemon Tabletop United gets my vote for really fun group game. Trainer Classes make the trainers actually feel a bit different from one another training and pokemon battle wise, plus you can build trainers who can actually fight alongside their Pokemon partners. The Pokemon are also really fun to use in this game. Nearly each pokemon feels more vibrant (because its a tabletop game so you can make them as vibrant as you want) and nearly all of them are actually usable and have fun stuff they can pull off (even many NFE!). I like it a lot, despite some of the systems many problems.

looking at the essentials code, you're right, it doesn't have to sum to 100. those are just weightings for each slot
considering that in the encounter tables you will have pokémon occupying multiple slots at once, something like 5% as you suggested might not be so bad

Its 14 gyms out of 18 completed. The plot is a clusterfuck which is pretty good if you get into it. And (most of) the characters are pretty likeable. There are a few points in the story that feel like a total slog (most notably grand dream city) and there are way too many characters to keep up with, but personally, I'd recommend, good boss fights, dimensional rifts are fun, and fun characters. Also huge amounts of content, the sidequests are complete kino.

It tries to be Reborn 2, so that game (pokemon reborn) is canon to rejuvenation.
Decent gameplay with some rough spots like the first gym having a field that poisons you every turn.
Story is pretty bad. The game is pretty long and we still know basically nothing about what the evil team wants to do, just that the leader is extremely strong (she owns a yvaltal and has some magic time crystal) and wants to get the power of some girl. also it contains time travel lol

I have spent way too long thinking over the story of Rejuvenation. I think it's the biggest clusterfuck I have ever seen. I wanted to play Rejuvenation and post it on /vp/ but with how ridiculously convoluted the story is (it has TWICE as many characters as fucking REBORN) literally nobody would be able to keep up. Add that to the average character being worse than Reborn too. At the very least, Rejuv has this one great moment at the end of a long sidequest chain as of this current version.

Anyway, with dive you can go into the Team Xen base in the wetlands and find a secret section with a model Yveltal cocoon and what looks like Madame X's notes. Apparently, she's trying to destroy her Yveltal without it also sucking up all the life energy in the world to heal itself, because the Yveltal is possessed by Indriad/Vitus aka literally Satan and Adam at the same time or something. I also fucking guarantee you Madame X is ANOTHER alternate timeline version of Melia, the mary sue whose cock the game literally cannot stop sucking.

Literally everybody knows how bad Rejuvenation's story is. People who recommend the game know it's bad, people who hate the game know it's bad, people who are indifferent know it's bad, I know it's bad if you bothered reading my post instead of getting overly emotional about how I don't hate every aspect of some dumb meme fangame. My favorite novels are In Search of Lost Time and Infinite Jest, TRUST me when I say I understand Rejuvenation is low brow prose.
What I argued is that characters can still be perfectly likable despite a bad plot, and why you're expecting or wanting a villain to be likable is beyond me. Angie and Madame X aren't well written, but that has nothing to do with them being likable.

Shoutouts to other pieces of media aren't uncommon and Rejuvenation's story doesn't take itself too seriously, but you are right the mother's death is handled badly. Not necessarily because of Melia, but because it's rushed and the mother is barely a character, though.

It's mostly dumb shit that leads to nothing except to jerk off the characters, I'm still not sure what the whole point of Bladestar was but hopefully they're fucking gone. Anyway, if you haven't done it yet, go dive around the route to the east of Teila Resort (where the Aquamarine or whatever cave is). Inside the cave dive spot is an obnoxious current puzzle that you can only complete by diving from around the Kyogre room at the volcano where the lavadunks happened. Around the route, you can eventually find a place called the 'Archive', not sure if you need to complete the puzzle in the cave to open it. Inside is a fuckhuge loredom from the ancinet Garufa wizards/tecnhomages. In summary

The 'Interceptor', the seemingly godlike being the player character is, might be one of their creations, and has to be within wifi range of the planet's core
The fuckhuge tower that pops out of the desert near the end of the current chapter is a part of the core and probably has something to do with unleashing your superpowers
You have a limited number of lives since every death damages the core
Spacea and Tiempa were a result of the Garufas experimenting with the Archetype, the magic mcguffin that Arceus transformed itself into
Melia and co having blonde hair is because they were touched by the archetype, which makes them look like that, but if they lose their powers they go back to their regular appearance.

Because "Maria"'s (99.9999% an alt timeline Melia) mother is stated to have black hair when you find the hospital records, and Madame X can briefly be seen with black hair when her mask is damaged, combined with the above info Madame X is 99.99% yet another Melia.

I'm currently figting the kingdra boss that comes after the button you have to go to kyogres spot for.
I'm using an elemantal seed in my silvally and even though the field effect manual says it should apply soak and even though it applies soak to the enemy seaking it fucking doesn't do it to my silvally. Tested it on my leafeon and it works. Probably because silvally changes looks based on its type.

With the Choice Specs, Steiner was a pretty damn good sweeper, He was able to basically handle the Ice and Dragon cardinals on his own. Especially as the ice one has perma-hail and he has Slush Rush.

Gau was surprising, I knew he'd be good, but I didn't expect how good after basically not being used all game. I'd definitely give it a shot if you haven't used it.

Palom... look, being honest? It didn't have any good matchups. The Cardinals all packed Dragon or Psychic counters and I never found time to truly switch it in to shine. It's a pity they make you wait so late for Gengar X, and that they nerfed its speed as badly as they did.

Oswin is fucking broken. Hey let's give a 134 base attack pokemon Huge Power, and lets let you slam a choice band on top of that. Oswin's only failing is ONLY having Hammer Arm and Mega Horn for STAB moves... and it doesn't care.

Vivi is absurd and it's absurd they give it to you before the first gym. If you reset to ensure you get a Xenolith on it, you can evolve it the moment it hits Electabuzz and that's basically the game. Who knew two powerful attacking types with Levitate would be good?

Roy has 700 BST, it's hard to be bad when you're stronger than a mega and can still put on a life orb.

Final thoughts: The games curve is pretty damn good towards Casper, but I frequently found myself swapping mons to avoid overlevelling past his gym. Not necessarily a bad thing, I enjoyed getting to use so many and indeed, proper teams compared to my first run, but yeah it can get away from you.

Still a great, fun game, even the second time through.

It really annoyed me the first time around but I imagine when you already know what you can and can't do going through it a second time you may be more forgiving. Or you may be even more annoyed knowing the "secrets" are just useless shrines you can't access without Dielebi anyway or dens you can't go in without Sabolt.

Not really. I prefer a curated linear experience than a scattered open one. My greatest disappointment was the infrequency of the X Pokemon in the wild and being like... locked out of some until basically the end game. But I just modded a higher encounter rate for myself. I will say there's plenty to improve upon, but on the whole I got the experience I was looking for, a Pokemon game. And yeah the Dielebi stuff was interesting but also like... eh.

The Dens were the low point, interesting concept, terrible execution.

I wasn't asking for a scattered open world experience but the dungeons had barely any exploration. Any open paths were closed off until post-game and whenever I tried to explore something before the story event sometimes a textbox would pop up saying that I should get back to the main plot. I'm at Victory Road in Renegade Platinum, seemingly done 'til some big guy said I had to go east to Route 224, so I think I have that section to do next with Marley, then Route 224 itself and whatever's there now
My team's only just reached Lv 63 (one Lv 64) though, and the opposing trainers are at least one or two levels higher than me
Will I get enough EXP from these sections or should I grind to be safe?

Don't waste your time with Prism. I thought I'd give it a try cause of the whole play as your pokemon concept seemed neat. To those who played it I dropped it after getting to the catacomb cave. Round 8 hours in.

The route design leaves much to be desired. Tile sets never looked right. Always felt like I was just going from town to town with no real purpose. The towns I visited lacked character. I talked to every npc and it not once did I think this is a unique region with it's own flavor. Seemed very half baked. Like the size of the regions were much more important than what filled them. Pokemon distribution was okay. Really needed an early exp share as some shitmons were painful to level up against random mons having movesets beyond their level. The new types and moves if explained even once might have been tolerable. But as implemented it's just annoying and screams of the creator giving in to every discordspergs screeching for their epic sound/light type. The rangers could have been neat, but their dialogue had me physically cringing.

Yeah that's how i figured out there was no rng anymore. Because I save state at the start of hard battles so I don't have to reload the game every time I lose. And the battle plays exactly the same. Same moves will miss, same move will crit, I know if I'll be paralyzed on turn 3. For at least 4-5 turns in.

It's not making it harder, it's making it easier. If I know I'll get burned turn 4, am I going to sit and take it? If I play the battle once I know exactly what move will hit and for what damage regardless of switches. It becomes a matter of optimizing the order of moves, it's not the same game anymore.

IIRC Original 1.5 and 1.8 are both just another trip around Kanto but the latter has the type chart that would show up in TDPD. Those two hacks were popular back in the day but they had a tendency of some incredibly weird difficulty.
