Stupid Questions Thread: A thread for dumb questions that don't deserve their own thread.

Starting out with one of my own: I'm trying to breed shinies in GS, but I dont fully understand this graphic. In it, it shows using an ekans to breed a meowth, but why do they breed the ekans twice? Are the male offpsring of gyrados + ekans not apart of the shiny family?

To start a Shiny Family you need an opposite-gender offspring to 'carry the trait', so to speak. So unless your target was already an Ekans, you may need to breed for a male in order to pass it down to your desired species.

What's the explanation behind gen 3 pokemon like rayquaza with a blue mouth (despite it even being red in the cutscene) and salamence with a very different color scheme being a thing? It makes me think gen 3 pokemon sprites were done before the sugimori artwork like in gen 1.

yeah, gen 3 was the last of the sprite/official art weirdness. see shuppet/banette and milotic for other examples

Why is applin's hidden ability bulletproof? Is there a joke with apples being hard to hit or very sturdy?

Why does sheer force boost throat chop and sparkling area but not psychic fangs/brick break or smelling salts?

It might be a joke about shooting arrows at apples.

I think it's because throat chop doesn't require an outside effect to be on the Pokemon being hit by it. I think sparkling aria is an oversight, since it's similar to smelling salts.
