yeah, the fact they pushed James during the first couple swsh trailers kinda linked James and the game...kinda sad when you think about it and makes me wonder if gen 9 will do the same thing with a new worker?

Being on a portable kind of gives them cover to not advance further or take advantage of better hardware. Not having that excuse... It was an evil but smart idea to throw james under the bus if it was done intentionally.

I honestly kind of believe that's what happened I mean considering how James was working under Gamefreak as early as gen 3-4 it's clear no matter what James would say yes, and it would be a win win if the games ended up as good as some games people then James and Gamefreak get something out of it but not using a legacy designer means when it got a bad reception they can just use a legacy designer to push the idea the next games will be better

I think it would be too strong to say they did the dex cut for that reason but thinking back on it, it was probably an easier choice to do dexit while james is at the forefront so that people can direct their anger over it at him.

What they didn't see coming was that people would be so mad about it that they sort of directed their anger everywhere else also.
