Cheating for tinesave in personal gameplay is fine, but cheating in official competitions to gain an advantage over others isn't. At that point it's comparable to athletes taking steroids instead of actually practicing and becoming better at a sport.

Literally untrue. They are a time saver. The reason why steroids make you stronger is that they decrease the amount of time your muscles take to repair themselves after a workout, allowing you to work out more and reap more gainz over the same period of time than if you were doing things naturally.

The more apt analogy for injection is this: imagine a hockey league where you got each piece of equipment you needed by playing slot machines. Now imagine instead of taking hours to play the slots, someone just gave you your equipment.

You didn't use an external device to modify or create items or pokemon in your Team, you used an external device to modify or create items or pokemon that you used to breed pokemon in your Team. Yeah except in pokemon it actually doesn't matter how long it takes a player to get the "gear" necessary to play, because at the end of the day we're using the same "gear". You have to take into account skill level as well. The gear is only as good as the person using it

Now also imagine in your fantasy slot machine world that doesnt exist that you could also simply rent the gear free of charge. Because that is the case with pokemon, and its called the smogon VGC ladder. No need to grind, or random chance to partcipate. You can start team building and practicing right away

There's an argument to be made that it does matter how long it takes to get the gear, because that time you saved not doing something completely unrelated to playing the game can be used to practice actually playing.

Playing VGC on Showdown in this analogy would be like playing a hockey video game. You still learn some important skills and strategy for playing hockey but it's an imperfect simulation. Incidentally, you can rent teams from other players to use on the ladder, which would be like borrowing someone else's gear while you learn to play. It's useful for learning how to play, but it doesn't let you experiment with tweaking your gear to suit your needs and at any rate you have to bring your own gear to tournaments.

The main things are the timer not being accurate and being able to take back moves after you've inputted them, but there are also some esoteric game mechanics that Showdown straight up does not get right. Not to mention the animations aren't the same as in game. Imperfect doesn't mean bad, since the way Showdown is set up you can get more practice in a shorter amount of time, but it's still not exactly like a tournament setting.

The biggest thing here with the timer is the between turn text(grassy terrain heals, abilities, etc) dont play for the correct amount of time.

It's clear cut, but people refuse to slog through the intended long process to make good Pokemon so they'll justify any kind of cheating shortcut to get around it desu. I bet if the devs actually had a way to detect injected/cloned/hacked Pokemon(they can't), they'd probably find 90% of the people doing anything competitive have done it. They'd have to ban almost all of their tournament players to uphold their own rules in both online and real life tourneys. (would be hilarious to see, actually, but it'll never happen)

Cheating in Pokemon is basically like sneaking into the official US mint and printing yourself money with the real machine. There's nothing funny about the money if you do it right, but what you did is illegal, so it just comes down to if it's known you acquired it how you did. Which in Pokemon's case is never possible unless you cheat retardedly and add an extra 0 to your printed bills.

I can see the utility in injecting to get the baby pokemon you want, then raising it like normal. Most of the fun is in the raising/battling, the breeding is just a massive waste of time

I'd say there's a 35% chance he does it himself. Most top players have someone else inject or breed their mons for them. The infamous Dream Ball Aegislash Ray Rizzo used was an example.

That's because you're trying to force shiny Pokemon, when it's intended to be a rare surprise. Shiny breeders bring it upon themselves for insisting on getting shiny Pokemon, especially if they're going for specific IVs, abilities, and gender on top of it. That's the shiny breeder's problem, and doesn't justify the asshole who injects perfect IV shiny Pokemon either. Basically, when I see a person with a full shiny team I automatically assume they injected and have no respect for them at all. What's wrong with leaving shininess up to chance and using mostly standard Pokemon? Soulless players, the lot of you.

Yeah it does come off as fake doesn't it? I don't play competitive or on cart but when it happens on Showdown it sort of takes me out of it. I say this as someone who has a full Shiny monotype team, but that took a while for me to finally come around to trying.

Sad for the guy who actually caught six different Shiny Pokemon and wants to show them off. But then again it would probably be obvious if they weren't injected.

In Pokemon Stadium 1/2 you can use rental Pokemon. yeah their movesets aren't the best but you can go straight to battling at least if you have no GSC cart

The scientists weren't evil because they made an artificial Pokemon.
They were evil because they treated Mewtwo as an experiment rather than a living thing and also because Mewtwo was a creature that shouldn't have really existed in the first place (like a mon with an illegal moveset).

I only use shinies on Showdown when I like the way they look more than the regular form.
I never use shinies on cart because I don't think shinies are special unless they're full-odds shinies that you weren't actively hunting.
