Its just like animal crossing, which went heavy handed feminine starting with new leaf. I get it, makes sense for the genre, I've adjusted to it, but its not as good tonally as it once was.
I also felt XY was going in this direction but it seems they only saw france in that light & have come back toward neutral. thank god.
