'Digital' feels too specific a type to add since the only Pokémon that it would work for are the Porygons. I think a more all-purpose 'Artificial' type might work better because it covers a lot of other Pokémon too?

I sort of had an idea for a type like this that would have a lot of elemental resistances due to man-made Pokémon being built to withstand extreme natural circumstances, but both offensively strong against and defensively weak against Psychic, Fairy and Ghost due to the classic 'magic vs technology' angle.

Cosmic is only semi-cringe since it can be cleanly cut off from Psychic (and could be used to buff it). Sound and Light are mega cringe.

The main problem with a digital/artificial/cyber/whatever type is that there aren't enough Pokemon to fit that niche.

I'm not sure how Ghost would interact with it but I'm leaning on it being in Ghost's favor because they can control inanimate objects and I don't see cyber attacks as doing much to them.

I feel like digital and electric are too close together in concept
Even rock and ground are pushing it desu, digital is kinda lame when they could do something like cosmic or sound which isn't really related to the existing types

Digital would just give lame freak the excuse to ignore electric type even more. There still isnt even any good reliable physical electric type move that isnt a pikaclone exclusive

There was only 151 pokemon when Dark type was introduced.
You can't make a new type without retyping some of the 898 existing Pokemon.

I'd like it if they introduced a digital or Cypher type only if they make a game based around a digital world or artificial mons or something similar. If it's just slapped on into a new title for no reason like the previous type additions were then it's pointless.
Any new types at this point should serve the narrative and world, not balance necessarily

No effect against rock type because you can't hack a rock and Stone Age's tech is a world much different compared to the cyber world.
On the other hand, steel type would be weak to the new type because electronics takes over steel-based mechanical systems.
That way we buff rock type as we also nerf steel type.

Imo the less Pokemon are converted, the better.
Don't repeat Fairy type fiasco. Convert Porygon line and Genesect and just focus on making new rare mons. I wish we had a new 'rare' type, which is what Dragon and Ghost used to be.

Also people who say Digital/Cyber/Virtual type is just Normal/Electric/Steel with extra steps are uber cringe.

Steel fills that gap. This is why it is named after an artificial alloy and not "Iron" or "Metal".
The poison immunity is a reference to the Robot class in Dragon Quest.

While I believe that "Artificial" does sound a bit better and you would most likely have to make new Pokemon that are showcasing what "Digital" is about, AND the idea of Magic vs Technology for the weaknesses sounds neat, I think some other potential type weaknesses would be something like Fire (in reference to computers overheating if not taken care of) or Poison (In reference to things like viruses).
