Because it's a spin-off. I don't care if Game Freak says otherwise to get more sales, this is not a proper Pokemon game. Just filler to tide people over until gen 9 which is coming that same year

It depends on what the combat style ends up being.
If it's action based, gamefreak isn't good enough and nintendo's online netcode isn't strong enough to make viable competitive online play.

No one's mad they are doing something new. But what's stopping them from implementing multiplayer? Doesn't even need to be battles, or trading, or whatever else they've included in every shit mainline game; even a simple co-op system for 2-4 people would be cool.
