First playthrough I always choose the boy, use my own name, and play with whatever Pokémon I find along the way that I feel like using. Then sometimes on subsequent playthroughs I'll pick either of the characters and use their canon name and what I feel like their canon team would be, because I'm autistic and it's satisfying to me

I played the boy and named him "ASH" from RSE until BW, and then I realized that was kinda retarded, so somewhere around 9th grade and started naming the boy random names beginning with the first letter of my name.
