>>46899689I'm just a Zoomer, but my first exposure was the Gen 1 Anime on VHS. I'm dropped in and out of Pokemon and played the TCG for a bit, but I've only recently given the games a try, starting with Platinum since it started the Special/Physical split and upscaling the 3D graphics made everything more immersive. Right now I'm on White, having played through Platinum and Soul Silver. I've been using PKHeX to replicate the transfer functionality (I'm emulating the games) and it makes all the games feel like one grand adventure as I'm always using mons from my previous adventures. Using all these mons in full 3D starting in 6th gen is gonna be awesome!
And then I look at the fanbase and see none of that spirit reflected. It's either zoomers whining about the old games sucking or millenials whining about the new games sucking. Wasn't this meant to be a social game, hence being split into two games to encourage trading? What the fuck!?
Pokemon is about the journey, and uncovering an ever evolving mythos. It clearly wasn't meant to be competitive. There are better games for that. It wasn't meant to be super deep mechanically or in themes. I have Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem for that. Pokemon is about a pure sense of child like wonder and adventure.
