>Silver (6)>Ruby (9)>FireRed (10)>Emerald (11)>Diamond (13)>Platinum (15)>HeartGold (16)>Black (17)>X (19)>Red (22)>Sun (22)And I'm 27 now. The first time I remember struggling to complete a Pokémon game was Platinum, but it was more about some weird OCD-like tendencies that I had that began to manifest in the way I play video games rather than any inherent dislike. Stuff like making sure all the Pokémon in my Pokédex were in a Male/Female seen order (something that they improved in Gen V and perfected in Gen VII). The last Pokémon game I ever completed was Platinum. I did complete Red in 2016 though, but it's more of an exception than the standard. I got up to Azalea Town in HeartGold, Ghetsis in Black, Grant in X, and Mount Lanakila before Gladion in Sun.
I have to say, even when you remove all the autistic shit that triggers whatever OCD I have from the series like with the earlier games, I still value the older games more. I try not to let aesthetic influence my opinion since it's subjective. But the newer games are so restrictive or lazy in the areas I used to really like that I just cannot care. I got farther in Sun than I did in X, but my opinion was significantly more negative overall because it treated me like an infant the entire way through.
I recognize the flaws of the older games, but I still think they manage to be more enjoyable experiences in spite of them. I think Platinum is great, but I have problems with it that aren't present in DP, same with HGSS vs GS. These are problems that would come to define all my issues with the modern Pokémon games, but they weren't as egregious at that point, and at the very least they had a shitton of content over their foundations.
I would honestly like to have the source code to the Gen IV games so I could make some minor tweaks (nothing game breaking, just stuff that could fix OCD stuff for me, maybe a performance update, etc.)
