People hated Iris because the dynamic between her and BW Ash was fucked up. They tried to do OS Misty but forgot to make Ash a massive asshole so it just looks like Iris is bullying him most of the time.

Iris is my favorite champion and BW2 is my favorite game. I think the BW anime was generally unpopular back in the day (from my observations) but everyone kind of forgot about that and associates Iris with the Pokemon's peak.
