Double battles are overrated and aren't really more fun than single battles.

I find them a lot more fun desu. I've been trying to Nuzlocke Emerald Doubles Edition on and off lately and I tend to think a lot harder when there's so many moves flying around.
I'd love more doubles-focused romhacks

I agree, wholly indifferent to them. Maybe if more moves had synergy to them that made it more different to to 'single battle but twice' it'd be interesting but as is I don't miss it in early games at all.

The issue is there's no reason to take Doubles teambuilding into account when the game is 95% singles, and doubles is just an afterthought gimmick. So doubles do just feel like 'singles but twice'

If you make the entire game doubles and have enemies that use real doubles strategies, then it lets you make your team with that in mind.

Isn‘t the reason they made doubles mandatory to vgc, so battles go over quickier, stall teams are kinda more limited and shit like substitute roos ddance or fear shit don‘t work

I think time concerns is the sole reason for VGC being doubles. They have a much more lax approach to their format than Smogon which might not work well for singles.

Eh, I am not even competitive but I had lots of fun with Colosseum, PBR and Battle Frontier doubles. I wish they made a mainline game thats exclusively doubles.

I agree.
If a game had the option to have nothing but double battles I feel I'd enjoy them more.
As it stands, for most games, double battles are just an occasional gimmick.

This + 3v3 singles matches can be basically decided by the lead and 4v4 doubles is more skill based.
This of course doesn't mean 6v6 singles aren't skill based but shitposters don't care

Double battles are shit in the main series because they are not focused around them.
However Doubles in the Orre games are way more fun because they are the main fighting mode.
