If the goal of a true pokemon trainer is to be the champion, then why is there an elite 4?
What do they do all day?
Just sit around and wait for someone to collect enough badges so they can protect the champion from being battled?
That would be like pro sports teams holding permanent playoff spots and playing qualifying teams and trying to keep them from playing a pre-determined champion.
If they are truly the best the region has to offer then why aren't they attempting to battle the champion and claim the title for themselves?
