The fact that the brand had enough legs to expand and just change up the coat of paint is probably the most one can expect. I'll admit other games change things up every once in a while but Pokémon as it stands doesn't really need to do much to keep its business going. That doesn't mean it's above brand consultation or readjusting its image after 25 years, it's just that what people expect of the series seems detrimental for their target audience. Stop expecting the series aimed at younger audiences to suddenly become Dark Souls: Pokémon Edition or some shit just because learning the type chart made things too easy.
