You aren't discovering anything on your own then. Just because it's on rails doesnt mean you're not exploring interactions. As well there's trying to take a picture *you* find good rather than what whoever is playing finds good.
On rails shit is fine, not everything needs to be open damn world.
It can have the same simple appeal of arcade games as well. Trying to perfect the structured section or earning a high score.
The game play is literally manipulating the controlled environment to get good pictures using what tools the game gives you. Discovering how things work together and such.
