A thread earlier today died and I want to get the topic rolling again, about why Pokemon should have a protagonist that's actually an adult.
>it makes more sense that you're just a kid who's new and barely becoming a trainer
Every single game has plenty of older NPCs on early routes that only have a single level 12 Pokemon, why would it be so confusing that a person would wait until they finished school or something before starting their journey? In fact it makes more sense to do that.
>why would you only get your first Pokemon that late in life
Professor Oak forgot his grandsons name until you reminded him of it. Have your starter Pokemon be decided the same way. You've always had one, it's just not confirmed which one it is until you start the game
>the game is meant for kids
And they know well enough that young adults/older fans still play it, and kids don't care about "self inserting" whatsoever anyway.
The story would also make much more sense, Sword already has Leon saying "let the adults handle things" and doesn't let you check out what happens in the Power Plant, yet a little kid is allowed to fight villainous teams and legendary Pokemon? An adult who knows what they're doing would make more sense.
