It's not really the same joke.
The Unown entry which waxes poetic about how it's a metaphor for man itself is a lot different from the Spinda entry that talks about how his wife left him and he turned to a life of drinking, or the Kakuna entry where they pretend it's actually good.
The root of the joke is the same, which is that the Pokemon is bad, but the execution is completely different.

But it was functional. It showed level-up moves, I could search through the page by just typing, and most importantly, I could open things in new tavs.

The current one is also functional.
You can see all of the information you immediately need right at the top.
I will agree that the old coat of arms is way better, though.
Type, ability, stats, tier.
And you can just ctrl+F for the moves rather than needing to go to a different tab.

I use Firefox, and it automatically starts searching through a page as I type without needing to ctrl+f.
I can't just quickly bring up a list of Pokemon in any given tier without losing my place on the current page because middle clicking hyperlinks just brings up a duplicate of the page I'm already on. It's terrible for efficiency.

This whole schtick of pretending that something that sucks is actually worthwhile is one of the most low-effort and least creative attempts at epic internet humor. Yeah, Ledian sucks. Pretending Ledian is worthy of some absolutely hilarious and elaborate analysis despite the fact that it's so obviously bad is just the most low-hanging fruit of comedic thought experiments. The rudimentary idea of "pretending bad thing isn't actually bad" is so creatively bankrupt that all these articles are essentially the same bullshit.

Once you've gotten over the initial surprice factor that some random garbage has a seemingly intricate article it's really not that interesting anymore especially since there are so many random shitmons that have gotten this treatment.

Even worse are the shitty AFD joke rankings and ban nominations where some hilarious Smogon mod writes up a post about how an NFE needs to be banned from OU or something and then showing a calc of Heatran getting KO'd by this NFE's Earthquake.

It's absolutely bottom of the barrel funny-think. Bad thing is bad so I'm gonna make a big funny saying bad thing is worthwhile. Never saw the appeal of these barring a few select exceptions that break the mold and genuinely have some funny paragraphs that aren't just rehashing the same basic joke premise from above.

The drunk Spinda and "weather whether weather" Castform entries are actually funny because they're original jokes.
The Kakuna one might have been funny at the time, but now it's just overdone. You can't tell the same joke over and over again and expect it to be funny.
