You don't. Go play HGSS on an emulator so you can get all the events to playout and just have a better experience. You can't do half the shit crystal is all glorified about anymore

You can get Magmar 1 badge later in Burned Tower. The same can’t be said about Elekid, Pichu, Tyrogue, Cleffa, Smoochum, and Jigglypuff though, whose evolutions are mostly locked behind kanto or safari zone encounters. If you want to play through the game with one of those Pokémon, you may want to play through Crystal. Otherwise, play HGSS

You dont really "need" to. If you like retro games and appreciate the older spritework and classic 8 bit music then you will enjoy yourself, But as a video game hgss are superior in every single way.
