i think yeah sure, they decided on it last minute, but that doesn't necessarily affect if it looks bad or not
the lake guardians were sketched up literally three weeks before the first Sinnoh trailer, which doesnt immediatly make them ugly

The special thing about it is its wide choice of abilities. It has Mold Breaker, Adaptability, Rockhead and Reckless which make up for its generic typing.

Bruxish is actually very well designed, it just has intentionally garish colors. The fish it's based on have very bright colorations and really do have that weird thing on their head. The name is from bruxism which means teeth grinding, which is how parrotfish and other fish use their teeth

it's definitely the gen of diamonds in the rough. stoutland, zebstrika, excadrill, tympole, sewaddle, scolipede, whimsicott, krookodile, darmanitan, cofagrigus, garbodor, jellicent, chandelure, hydreigon, and volcarona are all great designs. The rest are mostly trash though

Because Pokémon designs aren't as bad as most people pretend to believe. Hating certain Pokémon is mostly a meme, you can't unironically hate something that was designed to be your friend, even if it's an abomination. Those ugly Pokémon tend to grow on you as "ugly-but-cute" Pokémon over time.
