I thought about finally picking up twitter, see what the people I used to talk and share with in the regular are up to, but the vast majority of them became the following:-

Which is sad, because one of the people I shared and talked with the most on tumblr doesn’t do anything with her Twitter account, asides from retweeting some mundane shit and uploading screenshots.

>2. people who try to shed any and all association with pokemon, even if their handle pertains to a pokemon species
And sadly, most of them became furries. Not gonna claim I wasn’t surprised, but... fuck, I don’t know what I dislike about what they’ve turned into now, but it’s like I’m seeing an entirely different person.

My god, this hurts me more than it should. If it wasn't for the inherent issues that come with being within the furry community it really shouldn't be that big of a deal.
As the character designs shifted with the overall general philosophy of character design in Japan, it was very obvious what was going to happen. If only the mindset was nowhere near as toxic.

That's not particularly true, there were still kids that posted here in that day and age (I was one, started on this board at the age of 13 in 2011). We just gatekept more. If you posted some trite shit that had nothing to do with the topic at hand, you were b&. Soijak posters simply would not have existed 8 years ago. People would check filenames to see where the image was downloaded and if it was from facebook, tumblr, etc, you were promptly told to go back there. The series itself didn't seem to have any particular decline other than a worse postgame either at the time so there was naturally a bit more to talk about.
Another big factor is that the underages of today are 10x worse than they used to be. I conformed to a lot of the culture and memes when I was (big ex. is costanza posting but you get the point) and underages today don't even respect anonymity at all and go as far as opening up discord servers. Plus their memes and vernacular are horrid which kind of shits up the place further. This is site wide and not particularly a problem with one board. I'm just glad seethe/cope/have sex is on the way out. Also I'm pretty tired when it comes to hearing about transexuals. That pancake meme where there's one guy who keeps bringing up pancakes even though no one's talking about pancakes can be swapped for the word tranny and you've got an accurate depiction of regular conversation these days.

You’re on 4Chan, why anyone would even attempt to have civil discussions about popular/mainstream hobbies and entertainment instead of literally any other website confuses me so much. You can even have more civil discussions about Pokemon on Showdown of all things, which is a lower bar than Reddit and Twitter in the first place.
