Do you ever stick with earlymons?

I mean like the Pokemon you can find earliest in the game - Rattatta/Sentret/Pidgey/Hoothoot/Zubat/Geodude/Oddish/Meringue et al. Or do you inevitably ditch them?

Somewhat related, but what about when it comes to Pokemon like Geodude, where it's a pain to get to its final stage? Does this put you off actually using one on your in-game team?

Currently playing through SS, and I wanted to use a Geodude for once (coming up against Falkner), but I have no way to get Golem so it kind of feels pointless. Maybe I shouldn't just gotten a romhack...

except when absolutely necessary, i tend not to drop Pokemon from my team. Also I usually like the early game Pokemon anyway. I don't think there's a single game where I don't keep one of the early game birds around.

Oddish usually stays with me as I am not a huge fan of most grass types.
Now that we no longer need HM slaves, I rarely have a flying or early normal type in my team.

Sometimes yeah, it just depends on the team. I've played through both FRLG and RSE with a Golem in my team, he's fucking rad. And in RSE, I can't tell you how many times I used a Swellow or Pelipper, the latter is just too useful.

I used to always have Graveler for Strength/Rock Smash even though I couldn't evolve it. And now I prefer Graveler over Golem design-wise so it wouldn't bother me at all.

Yes. I usually prefer Pokémon with 3 stage evolutionary stages I can have early on so I can see them grow as the game progresses. I usually have at least 3 Pokémon by the 2nd Gym (starter/regional bird/x). Some of the early non starter/birds mons I use are Mankey, Wooper, Slakoth, Budew, Elemental Monkeys, Litleo, Alolan Grimer, and Chewtle.

Yes.

Generation 1 and 2 all the way.
I only like about 10% of Gen. 3 and maybe one or two Pokemon post Gen 3.
That floating Ice-cream cone looks pretty kewl.
But I don't play anything past Gen 3, so I wouldn't know.

Me too. Regionals are allowed as well though, as does anything that evolves from or into something from the gen. Topic related, Alolan Raticate is actually okay in-game, though players may want a Hustle + Wide Lens one for more power.

Here are some of my experiences:
- Staraptor seems to be one a lot of players keep all the way to the end, but that's because it is busted as hell for something you can catch on the first route.
- Talonflame and Corviknight were also fantastic regional birds.
- Back to Gen 4 a second: Luxray is okay, but suffers from movepool issues, especially what with having debuted before Wild Charge did. I imagine it will be significantly better with 4 gens' worth of movepool improvements.
- Starting from Gen V, early bugs become a lot more viable and for a lot longer. I frequently took Leavanny or Scolipede to the end of BW and BW2.

me too, the only exceptions are regionals, and only on pokemon Y I also used blastoise because I wanted to have at least a single mega pokemon on my team

You see this shit in like every single game
Even if you don't use these, you'll see so many of them that using one makes the whole experience seem a little monotonous. Like running a team of Dittos, except without the interesting parts.

I'm on victory road in yellow right now, still with the Primeape I caught as Mankey before Brock.
Crobat is also a great mon in late game. The only bad mons are the birds und rats which exist only to fill the dex.

I love the Oddish line and I use Zubat and occasionally the early bird mon as well, and once I add them to my team I usually keep them the whole time. It just kind of depends on which game I'm playing and if it's been a while since I've used that Pokémon. I never use Rattata/Sentret/whatever the early rodent mon is though, it just never seems worth it even when I like the Pokémon.

It does, but I still do it occasionally. I used a Golem on one of my GSC runs and it was okay but generally I avoid trade evos just because they're annoying and I automatically disregard most of those Pokémon
