In RBY/FRLG:
>instantly use repels when entering any dungeon
>make beelines for items and the exit
>completely avoid annoying wild Pokémon encounters unless hunting for something specific (which ends after making a team of 6 )
In LGPE:
>hang out in places like Viridian Forest and Mt. Moon for hours on end to catch lots of Pokémon
>capturing is fun, beneficial and addictive because of exp multipliers and candy loot
>overworld encounters are way more engaging than random encounters
LGPE made the act of catching Pokémon actually feel like a main component on the game, on the same level of battling, as it should be. As opposed to something you do around five times during the first half of the game until you have a full team and then never again for the rest of the story.
