You and everyone else here perfectly know why but decide to turn a blind eye. Gamefreak didn't want the Johtomons to mog their kanto babies. And guess what? Even after all the mistreatment the johto pokemon are still many people's favourites, now imagine if gamefreak treated those pokemon well.

In an alternate universe Leon would have a Typhlosion.

It is like with the jews, everyone knows what's up but people prefer to turn a blind eye.

Something about that artwork in OP’s pic is just so good... it’s like it reverts the slight shift in artwork style from Gen 1 to Gen 2 and recreates the Pokémon’s design to what they would have looked like if they were in Gen 1. I kinda wish that’s how they all actually looked

I just made this having a sinilar discussionin another thread. I don't think they were intentionally bad most if the time, just filling a role or trying to be different from Kanto.
>green is a useful pokemon
>orange was unavoidably bad (ex: early game mons, single-stage rare mons)
>red was probably intentionally bad
This is not objective, just my experience with the pokemon

I think Ledian is intentionally bad. Both Butterfree and Beedrill are crappy but at least they're useable until a certain point, same goes for Ariados. Ledian is just terrible the whole game, Lediba itself struggles even when grinding against other early game wild mons. And on top of that they removed it from the pokedex in gen 8 and made a ladybird pokemon that's superior to it in every possible way.

I mainly marked it because it's just bad as a starter. If it wasn't a starter it probably would've been yellow, but there is no way nobody noticed that the 2 fire starters were exactly the same during development, or that they thought that would be a good thing.
