You mean the best dex since BW? Because Gen 2 has tons of shit designs.
But yes, I can agree, Alola has really good mons. And the UBs and Alola Forms add even more to it.

BW is definitely one of the weirdest dexes. You either had slam dunk designs or some of the worst designs in the series. No in between.

Johto and Alola had the perfect mix of cool, cute and weird designs, making for a diverse roster of Pokémon for everyone to choose from. Every other Dex sways too hard in one direction e.g. Sinnoh has too many edgy/cool Mons, Kanto has too many kaijumons, etc.
The sooner you accept that Johto and Alola have the best Dexes, the faster this franchise will improve.

Hard agree. Gen 5 had a handful of absolutely amazing designs but then 90% of the dex is just beyond fucking garbage and Kanto concepts rehashed. They clearly prioritized quantity over quality and it shows.

Gen 5 is the epitome of quantity of quality. Gen 8 may have a lot of stinkers but at least the good designs are genuinely good and half the dex isn't filler.

Johto and Alola never hit. Well, Johto has SOME good designs, like Crobat, Scizor, Heracross, and Skarmory, but I can’t think of any other good designs out of the 100 introduced in Gen 2.

There can't be non boomer people who think gen 2 is the best. It's the blandest pokedex of them all. Even gen 4 has at least some cool and original ideas executed badly cause of the edgy fetish they got then. But gen 2 has literally nothing for it. Shit designs, ideas, concepts (a quarter of the dex are fucking babies) and typing combinations.
1 >5 > 7=3 > 6 > 4 > 2 > 8

I dislike Gen 7 as games but I will concede hat the Pokedex is pretty good overall. I quite enjoy a lot of these or at least don't mind them.
A lot of the worst it has is the most important though: I think all 3 starters are completely garbage, Lycanroc is boring, Bird line is meh, and rodent line is bad. They're the weakest part of the Pokedex along with Togedemaru.
