The team who've been working on Gen IX, have been doing so since starting to wind down on their Gen VIII work, prior to launch in 2019. They work to their own schedule, rest of the company works around them. You're deranged if you think Nintendo won't want another kiddy-focused console-seller for next christmas, be an easy way to Switch XL upgrades at parents, as well as 4K-boosted output for the Pro playerbase.
But I don't buy Nintendo just for Pokémon, so I don't vehemently ignore what they're up to overall in my predictions.
