I say Aqua is more retarded if they succeed:

The more they continue it has potential to alter life as we know it.

Exterminating all sea life with magic rock creation powers will basically disrupt the economy of fishing and the food supply of fish.

Magma consistently seems to have the more reasonable goal and I think that's largely due to their ultimate end goal being the expansion of human civilization and just generally to make money. Development basically.

Team Aqua seems to counterbalance this by being more about the preservation, restoration, and stimulation of nature. But they honestly come off as genocidal since they say they're doing this so that Pokemon have more room to live. Someone in a previous thread brought up how their plan would kill land-based Pokemon, but honestly, Pokemon have a highly adaptable physiology, moreso than humans, so for the most part they would be fine. Its human beings that would suffer the most from that plan.

... But honestly, they're both dumb and as cool as Groudon and Kyogre and Rayquaza are, the plots of their games are shit. Excluding the new stuff like Sword and Shield, which I haven't played, I think Gens 2 and 3 are real contenders for the worst plots.

If I had to pick one that made more sense, I'd say Magma is slightly less retarded than Aqua because Archie doesn't even take into account the land-based Pokémon whose habitats he'd be destroying. Maxie at least admits he only is focused on human progression.

At the very least they could have switched them around. Weezing seems less egregious for Archie than Grimer which is a literal puddle of sludge. But in general had they not given Archie either of those, they could have spun it so that he sees that type of Pokemon as abhorrent since in one case (Grimer's) it was literally born from filth.

Recently had an epiphany that gen 6 was best for a Hoenn remake because Lysandre was all about how human resources will soon run dry because of the greedy and then Maxie comes up with a drastic plan to increase the land mass for humanity to have more resources and areas to develop on, while Archie says fuck it all together and just invests in water pokemon only. They all just have different viewpoints on the same thing, I hope it was intentional.

Grimer/Muk and Koffing/Weezing are counterparts in Red and Green. They're not exclusive or anything, but they have inverted encounter tables to each other in each version, where one line appears more frequently than the other in one version. It's the same for stuff like Caterpie vs Weedle, Nidoran-F vs Nidoran-M, Psyduck vs Slowpoke, and Shellder vs Staryu.

Magma and Aqua only used three lines each in the original Ruby and Sapphire, but four combined together. They both used the Zubat and Poochyena lines, and Magma used the Numel line and Aqua used the Carvanha line. They are by far the least diverse teams. Emerald added some very rare instances of Magma using Baltoy and Aqua using Wailmer, like literally less than a handful of occurrences combined. In ORAS, they realized they needed more to diversify them so they gave Magma the Koffing line and Aqua the Grimer line. Doesn't really make much sense since they're about pollution and the teams are big on the environment (but they're also retarded).

Not him, but your main quest regarding the egg ends near the beggining and then there's only Silver and Team Rocket(whose actual relation wasn't given in Gen 2 so it was disjointed) and TR just takes up random locations until you defeat their nameless unimpressive leader and that's it. Gen 1 also had multiple changes but the final product is more consistent(you have league, dex, rival and rocket plots and everything but dex ends up tying together) and feels like it was written after gen 2 and not before.
Gen 2 are great games btw, just not for the plot.

However Gen 2 shows that Rocket is basically engaging in poaching and other crimes for money.

I don't know if I would call Cell a retard since he's just trying to complete his programming, but the things he does after becoming complete are up to debate. It's a debate I don't feel like having though.

But just from Pokemon, if we're talking about ideological goals, Giovanni is fine. Making money is simple enough and his means of doing so seems pretty effective.

This is plot armor in action.
This is true practically for every fiction.
The only alternatives are:
A) Fiction where the villains win and you get a villain ending (when is the last time you remember this happening?)
B) Deus Ex Machina, basically the villain wins and instead of being retarded because plot armor he gets stooped by some randome bullshit simply showing up out of nowhere to over power the villain.

I like Deus Ex Machina fiction, it literally does not have the villains going full retard after conquering the world only something like a god needs to step in (Think Q from star trek) and stop the total destruction of the heroes and make the villain vanish. The best part? Deus Ex MAchinas are unpredictable and not reliable so you can have the villains win in spectacular ways and instantly order the execution of the heroes without bullshit or going retarded after that point and having their characters ruined.

In fact, Japanese police are very iffy on using the term yakuza for organized crime syndicates, and they try to promote using a different name instead. In Pokémon, the term yakuza is never used in the Japanese version, and Team Rocket is called a マフィア (mafia).

The Italian mafia tries to/tried to do this little for the people cope too. Go watch some of Michael Franzese's videos for more info on the mafia.

At the end of the day the Yakuza and the Mafia are basically the same thing, but I can't deny the overwhelming Italian influences in his design. I'm just saying that Team Rocket is Yakuza because it helps to know that in the culture that produced Pokemon, such an organization exists and is particularly prevalent. I may need to retract some of what I said though because a lot of Yakuza culture stuff, like their ridiculous tattoos, doesn't seem to be prevalent in Team Rocket hierarchy, but that might be because its still a kids game.

With that being said, Giovanni's speech to Silver about the power of an organization gives me Yakuza vibes more than it does mafioso vibes, but his state of dress is way more Italian, you're right. For what its worth though, pic related has a point, and the Yakuza Uncle from Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift dresses like Giovanni from HGSS too iirc.

No, but his drive to become complete was stronger than his competitiveness. Once he was complete, there was no reason to be super pragmatic about who he took out and when. He wanted to test his power.

I dunno, it just makes you wonder what he's going to do after destroying Earth. He's not going to try to change anything or make the Universe a better place, bend it to his whim or anything like that? It's what happens after his completion that bothers me but I don't think he's fundamentally broken or stupid as a character.
