Why has Game Freak stopped with the cross-gen evolutions? There are still plenty of Pokémon that deserve it.

Because of Eviolite.
If Ledian gets an evo now, then why is it suddenly able to use Eviolite when it couldn't before?
Same reason why GF needed to make up a bunch of new evolution methods and introduce incenses for breeding.

Why couldn't a Licktiung with Rollout evolve in Gen III but it can in every following generation?
Why couldn't a Magneton evolve into Magnezone with a Thunderstone in previous gens when it can now?
You could even argue that removing moves and Pokemon from existence is a far bigger departure from continuity than any of the above.

Are there even any Pokemon that need evolutions that would be broken with Eviolite? Fucking Dusclops already exists and I can't think of anything that would benefit from it more than it does.
Also make a fucking offensive Eviolite so my Level 100 Dewott has something to do

Porygon2 has the highest BST of any NFE mon.

That's an evolution of GALARIAN Farfetch'd, the original can't evolve into that, you idiot. Galarian is Gen 8, original is Gen 1. It is NOT cross-gen.

And, for better or worse, they try not to. Other than changes to moves and occasionally abilities, most Pokemon are identical in the latest games to when they were introduced. It goes a long way for making the Pokemon world feel "real." These aren't video game characters that can be changed and rebalanced; these are living creatures that we're observing and documenting.
