Yep. First time I played, my team was literally that.
Greninja, Venusaur, Lucario, Lapras, Talonflame and Sylveon. Only Sylveon I really liked.

The focus was on megas and fairies, so yea. Also only the 3 legendaries, xy had KANTOOOOO birds.
That said, the dinos, hawlucha and noivern’s line are all fantastic among others.

I realized it would be an effort to have a diverse team using just the new Pokemon so it was the first time I ever used a prior gen, with Charizard and Gardevoir. I wanted to see Charizards Mega and Gardevoir seemed justified due to the type change.
Was a decent team but had two Dragons on it in a Fairy gen

Probably has my least favourite regional rodent, bug, pikaclone and pseudo. But it does have the best fossils in the series so there's that

Honestly though any dex that gives me Malamar and Trevenant is 10/10 in my eyes
Noivern, Hawlucha, Aegislash, Clauncher, Klefki and Helioptile are also nice bonuses

I once sat down and wrote out all Pokémon up to Gen 7 when when I was in prison . I got them all but Beheeyem and it's prevo took me a week to recall.
Some Pokémon are memorable because they're forgettable, like Finneon/Lumineon. And some are Beheeyem

I thought Gen 6, despite the few, definitely outnumbers the good over bad designs.
But as others have said, Gen 6 also seemed like it just didn't want you to use Kalos Pokemon over Megas or the free shit the game relentlessly handed you very early in.
It's funny how cookie cutter teams from the games looked when they came out, despite X/Y having such a huge amount of Pokemon available compared to gens 1-5.

>Kanto Starter
>Lucario
>Tyrunt/Amaura
>Lapras
5 before you even get to Korrina and then Korrina forces a Lucario on you. The Lucario one is particularly shitty because you can literally catch Riolu before you fight Viola, so you're basically being told to replace the one you could possibly have at this point with a new one.
Other cookie cutter teams usually had a combination of stuff from above and Talonflame, Sylveon or something.

Honestly, Kalos had one of the best batch of original monsters imo. With the exception of Carbink, every evolutionary line felt complete without a lot of weird single-stage outliers. I can't say the same about Alola.

I felt the exact opposite. Half the Pokemon in Kalos felt so underwhelming and designed with mega-evolution or some kind of transformation in mind, but since we never got Z version we never got them and we kept the odd unfinished versions instead.

It's so fucking weird how only Greninja got anything of the starters, Goodra remained pure dragon, even stuff like Pyroar and Clawitzer felt like they were meant to get a little extra, and the entire region based around Mega Evolution only has Diancie with a mega to show for it.
