They are concrete little cylanders, sometimes with rounded tops. they are primarily used to keep cars from reaching certain areas while allowing pedestrians to pass through them. I live in the suburbs, so I might have gotten something wrong. Though they are often used to line the sides of sidewalks, certain areas and property, etc etc, I dont think ive ever really seen them border forests, let alone so close together to where they are impassable through walking. I think the later games did good by removing these, as they dont make too much sense if they prevent you from moving past them.
