Ice is a really good offensive type they just really need to stop making slow defensive ice types and start making more offensive based ice types. Tripel axel is an excellent move but almost no one gets to put it to use

Except that does nothing to fix the current defensive Ice types. Also, Ice being a good offensive type is more of a benefit to Pokémon that learn ice type moves rather than just Ice types, meaning 9 times out of 10 it makes more sense to just slap Ice moves on a Water type.

Ice needs to resist at least two more types. Ground and Flying are among the only types that are good enough offensively that they can handle another type resiting them.

Also, (and this has ben said millions of times here) Ice should get a defense boost in Hail like rock does in Sandstorm.

I'd like to add Hail's issue is also that unlike Sand there's no non-ice typing that is immune to it like Sands and it's 3 typings. Not saying Sand teams need everymon to be immune to sand damage but it does help. For Hail you need either

-Overcoat, Magic Guard, Regenerator
-an ability that benefits Hail. Too bad no non-ice type learns them

Hail as a weather is just too limiting. Sun is kinda in the same boat but it's issues are more related to how Venusaur is the only thing saving it from being complete ass (Loss of Mega hurt bad) and it's bad MU's alongside being forced to use fucking Torkoal who REALLY needs Slack Off.

Also GF really does not want Hail or sun to do well. Alola Exeggutor would have been amazing with Chlorophyll since you'd at least have neutral vs Fire Chloro user who could go special or Mixed but alas it got Frisk of all abilties.

It was originally the signature move of Delphox, who isn't a fairy-type and had other fire moves.
