Just like nobody would care about how glitchy Cyberpunk is if they didn't hype it to hell and back and delay it several times after already having a specific date set and keeping people waiting for YEARS. Keep shit quiet until it's definitely ready or close enough that what you show is basically a slice of what the final game will be overall, don't promise something for the future that isn't at least 70% finished, and don't share every single detail before launch. That way if development hits a snag that needs a delay or a rework it won't be so severe that it makes all the marketing seem like lies rather than overambitious promises and taking the time to get it right won't bite you in the ass so hard. Sure, there's no covering for incompetence, but not boasting to garner attention and making it impossible to bail or recover is a good start.
