>>47016599I wanted it for so fuckin long, and as the series (as a whole) drifted far away from what I liked about it in the old days, my expectations lowered significantly. I didnt expect snap to ever be revived & would have preferred it in gens 2-4 (especially 2) but I knew that if it WAS revived it would have newer mons & stuff, so I immediately accepted that. I think they made mostly good choices with them
(eg mostly animal like mons & aesthetic ones like vivillon & lumineon). This game exceeded my expectations, I was so fucking afraid of it being complete utter shit or at least tonally/aesthetically not for me, which is important in a series like this. I mean its not exactly the same as it was which was more to my taste UI & menus/lore/music wise, but I expected worse and the actual game isnt as femmy/cutesy as the marketing even. the actual courses are pure nature so they're great, and the camp isnt even as bad as I expected.
and most of all, people were clamoring for an open world or free roaming experience, and I'm just beyond relieved they didnt bend to them. there's even split paths like I wanted. the only real issues for me is the lack of evolutions, signs and the pesterball, but I anticipated the latter. I expected the lumina orbs to be stupid but I dont hate them like I expected. and stuff like
the pidgeot grabbing magikarp or wingull taking finneon makes me really happy bc thats exactly the kind of cool normal thing I want in a game like this but expect modern pokemon to omit.
Basically, I expected them to ruin it & it could have been so much worse. the game does have some significant issues but I forgive it after so long & trying new things. if there's ever DLC or a sequel, I'll be more critical if these things remain.
