Make the wild pokemon actually fucking try to kill the player like in Ranger
If you get hit, then the first pokemon in your party gets out of the pokeball and takes the blow for you, receiving critical hit damage and maybe a debuff because fuck you, starting the battle with a disadvantage
But nope. Let's just have the shitty 3D pokemon models walk awkwardly in the overworld like some shitty youtube unreal engine demo. Who even cares about wild encounters offering any sort of challenge?
