1. What defines a game as being part of a generation? Not part of a new generation, but part of a generation at all?
because if it's compatibility with other games, then X and Y didn't count as a generation until ORAS was released. SM didn't count until USUM were released. SS still doesn't count.
but perhaps this rule can be waived if new pokemon are introduced. maybe that's it. oh right, LGPE added new pokemon. so it would count under this hypothetical criteria, either as a whole new generation or as part of gen 7.
2. Why should anyone care?
What is to be gained by shunting Meltan and Melmetal off into their own numberless category/? besides preventing the bitchfits of spergs the world over. put it gen 7, put it in gen 8, I don't care. either option is equally convenient. I actually put it into gen 8. but what reason is there not to put it somewhere? this is the question I really want an answer to.
