I borrowed leafgreen from someone but that was decent. Next I played Platinum, which was also very good, split was appreciated. SoulSilver was amazing. I played White and White 2, which were both amazing.
When I played Y, It felt like an adventure just became a local sightseeing tour. It didn't feel like I had an obligation to the game, too easy, too obvious, too predictable. It was much more for kids. I played Moon, which had similar problems, Ultra Sun was somewhat better, still lacking what pokemon once was. Let's Go Eevee was alright, grphically, but again extremely easy and predictable. It was pretty dry, and no I am not a huge fan of the way they implemented overworld encounters.
Sword felt like a step forwards and backwards in many ways, similar to X and Y.
My unfiltered opinion free of trolling the the rest of y'all.
