>>47039150I really don’t get how you people think the people who run this franchise aren’t trying to make the Pokémon take the role of animals in universe. The fact that Pokémon Snap is presented like a safari tour, completely with the deliberate decision to give almost all Pokémon more animalistic cries should make you rethink that. Of course it’s not a 1:1 deal, Pokémon are still fantasy creatures but it’s very clear that they overlap with animals, not only some in appearance but much more important in context.
Not all monsters are the same. The monsters in SMT are the supernatural and the deities, in Digimon they’re digital creatures, Undertale they’re banished magical creatures, Pokémon are the natural wild life in a universe where the supernatural is the natural.
