The split changed it so that every Dark move introduced before the split became physical. It added Dark Pulse as the sole Special Attack for Dark types until the next generation. It's a win/win for all Dark types.
Special Ghost and physical Water types were among the other winners. Dragons also upgraded with the split but it was also due the power upgrade to Outrage (90 -> 120) and the addition of Draco Meteor.
The split came with many new moves for types that lacked widely available and reliable STAB with good power. Things like Bug Buzz, X-Scissor, Flash Cannon, Iron Head, Energy Ball and Seed Bomb are missed in older Gens
