>>47029088Why do all of you guys get upset at Iris's development? I think you all are losing view of the bigger picture.
The real issue (which isn't even an issue, just a change) is actually the tone shift after the end of XYZ when the writers stopped giving a damn about consistency in favour of...random stuff happening, I guess. Before SM (and PM2019), the Pokemon League hierarchy was treated as the ultimate powerscaling reference, Champions and E4s were pretty much God Tier trainers. Now they're just sorta strong guys. Get on with the times.
Iris is a Champion in the games, she needs shilling so she would have become a Champion one way or another. And that's a good thing, imporatnt character absolutely MUST get media representation. The main difference is how the writers would have approached it. If the post XYZ tone shift wouldn't have happened, Iris would probably have been properly built up with training scenes and stuff so that the Pokemon League hierarchy prestige stays intact for the viewer to give the viewer a grand picture of the Pokemon League powerlevel scale. Now stuff like that is intentionalluly made more arbitrary so the writers can be more flexible with the writing and matchups. And that's not a bad thing, it's just what the anime is now. Realistically Iris should have been Alain tier in terms of battle power and trainer experience at the end of BW to be believable as a Champion.
But now it's the age of the ashnime's new format. Stop overthinking it and enjoy the show for what it is.
