I particularly will shit to high hell on it, I was watching *actual* dubbed adult anime on Channel 4 in the early 90's, long before most you keks saw your first one with Pokémon (there were also a shitload EU/Japan co-production cartoons done to Japanimation styles/tropes on in the late 80's that I saw GOOD kiddy "anime" too by then).
Pokémon's anime was never anything, but a vehicle for the producers to shill their toys at Japanese kiddies, which got brought worldwide, to help push the brand at children further. The fact they were making asinine changes like calling rice balls "jelly doughnuts" (90's had Alexx Kidd, which used Rice balls as health pickups. But that was SEGA, so maybe that's why NoA played the retard card with their oversight on the dub). It only ever wwas good, if that's the first anime you encountered and you started watching it at 6 years old (in which case I can't fault that, you're the target audience than), but if you were in your teens or older and thought this, you're plain retarded.
