A-dugtrio has grown on me, but precisely because of its volcanic glass inspiration I feel they missed the opportunity to make a fast ground/rock type for STAB edgequake purposes, or a ground/fire type for a bit more variety since the only ones we have are camerupt and p-groudon.
Both alolan and galarian variants have winners and stinkers, so I wouldn't call it a filter as much as a mixed bag of a concept.
