Why is that a bad thing? Dex variety is a must or they will all feel like reskins. Like compare the ben 10 reboot to the original run and you'll see the flaws with homogeneity

Version exclusives. I just threw together some random legends that haven’t been on any boxes and landed on “Garnet” (Entei) and “Topaz” (Raikou) to sound like Crystal (Suicune). Ho-oh is the Mewtwo-like ‘Mon and I chose Zarude for the mythical since its Grass and felt right.

I agree with the anon about kaijumons/bulky guys, and I can definitely understand your situation with being more inclined to design/draw different things. The drawings do help appreciate some mons more, since the spriting is kind of lacking in the form/shape department. The way the grass starter evolves reminds me of digimon, with a cute round ball turning into something more humanoid. Now I don't mind that, but the first stage would make me expect something else since this is a fakemon and not a... fakedigimon

Gym Leader facts:
>Dragon
Leader in a small city (the first the player enters) with a Trainer’s School. Ace Student, is edgy and thinks high of himself. Drampa is a gift from his mother and is his real threat, Goomy was totally trained from himself and is laughably weak. His team represents a childish son with room to grow.
>Steel
Comes from a rough industrial port that ships and receives metals. Leader is a tough old shipbuilder who loves to raise younger Pokémon and uses his multiple Skarmory to send messages to his workers. He represents tough love, being a tough but fair mentor.
>Ground
From an underground city where the region gets most of its minerals (stones and metals), but is a bit underappreciated itself. The leader is a punky girl who wants to put her town on the map for its own merit through her battling talents.
>Bug
From the biggest city in the region, the leader is an older socialite who loves her city and runs its city council like an insect queen. She’s a bit judgemental and harsh, but she means well.
>Rock
From a rich craft city where the region’s gemstones are refined. Leader is a young rich guy with a chip on his shoulder and his own merit to prove after his father was found to be paying to win battles. You actually see him catch his Dusk Lycanroc, as it was a special ‘Mon your rivals were also trying to catch.
>Normal
From a ranch town, she’s the first Gym Leader’s mother. She’s very smothering and overprotective and her son moved as far as he could to escape her overprotective nature. They love each other, but they have a lot to learn. Her using a past leader’s ace (Drampa) is meant to symbolise her experience over you and her son.
>Psychic/Dark
Game ramps into doubles from here on, and the shift to dual type represents this. He’s a shady hypnotist who you find out later hypnotises people to lose battles to him and even helps indoctrinates people to the evil team.
>Electric/Ice

You know, I think my ratings look worse than they actually are. The gap between good and bad is quite large in my eyes, so there are ones that I rated "average" that are actually pretty decent. My negatives boil down to:
>a few that look too busy
>a few that just look like a person in a costume
>a few with unpleasant color palettes
>a few that I genuinely cannot tell what I'm looking at
Otherwise the dex is nice over all, I've seen fakedexes leaps and bounds worse. I can say that even the designs of yours that don't work in my opinion are at least creative in their own right. You have good ideas and interesting concepts, but its natural that you can't nail the execution every time. You gotta remember that official Pokedexes are designed by entire teams of people so don't beat yourself up if every one of your designs doesnt land perfectly. Just stick with the ones you're proud of and keep refining the ones you think could be better.

"Suit" Pokemon can work, ya just gotta get it right. They're hit or miss. For example, I quite like the two headed bird and the sasquatch. On the other hand, I think the red knight fakemon is pretty bad. Its not a bad design on its own, it just doesnt look like a Pokemon. Hell, it looks like it could be a Grunt for the bad guys.

It's helpful to plan ahead, for example, think about what will be in each town and route and what they will look like as you make a map.
Also, try to give your fakemon at least 2 related inspirations so they don't end up being just elemental animals

I had an idea for a potential horse Fire-Starter line:

Focoal (Foal + Coal) - Fire
Pegasear (Pegasus + Sear) - Fire/Fairy
Apollion/Apallion (Unsure which would be better) (Apollo + Stallion) - Fire/Fairy

You're probably gonna find that you have a lot of dual types and not a lot of monotypes, that's normal as far as I can tell. On a similar note, don't force typings, that's just silly.
Don't hang yourself up on themes and inspirations too much unless that's your thing. Most people don't care about the hidden intricacies of a design too much beyond having another trivia fact they can jerk themselves off over.

Ability, maybe?

Abilities: Blaze/Buckshot (Hidden Abiltity: Fire-Type moves are more likely to hit).

OP here, I've been interested in >>47043776's dex for a while now because we're both on the same boat as we both want to make a pokémon fangame with our fakemon. I wanted to let him use my lion design (as well as making some of the other designs like the Lilligant, frog, slug, and snake) as means for motivation for him to work on his fangame.

This thread helped motivate me to redesign some of the mons I originally had. Thanks guys.
I wanted to work on giving off a more cool beefy vibe so I tried doing that with my pirate mon. And some more redesigns. Will sprite them later.

I've also made two options in dealing with thhe grass starter. The first option is to keep the middle and final evolution but change the first stage to the one on the right to closly match it more.

If you can't actually imagine your fakemon moving as a 3D model in say the 3DS games, it might not exactly be a good fakemon. Smogon CAP is a somewhat good metric for this.

Modern pokémon was ruined by humanoids.
Fakemon should be an escape from the shittiness that is modern Gamefreak design. So naturally it should be mainly comprised on somehing we all love back in gens 1-2, actual monster designs.
If I wanted a waifumon with a job and personality for some retarded reason I'd just go to gen 7-8 Gamefreak designs.
