What's the consensus on the whole "ORAS carts are dying" thing? Are we all fucked, is it just a bad batch, or is it a ploy to get people to buy Bank and Home subs? What exactly is the problem and how do we fix it?

You can't. At must, just pirate your 3DS, take the savefile and play on a pirated version. You can go online with no problem at all.

And to make clear - all physical media sooner or later will die so digital copies spread across multiple databases are the only clear option to conserve media. Sadly Nintendo is well known for punishing people for doing this job for fucking free.

Making proper backups of your cart is now a trivial problem. Granted, the cart problem does indeed suck for PAL players but if they move quick enough it wont be that bad.

Sadly, some of those might be scrubbed files. Usually, that would not be a big deal but there is a chance something might be deleted in the scrubbing process.
Example:
I got my hands on a Luigi's Mansion .cia that worked flawlessly but the multiplayer function crashed before it could even start. If you want something Pokemon-related, I and my wife played Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon together. (I was not paying for gen 7 but again.) Everything worked fine and we could even battle each other. The Multi-battle function in the battle tree however was completely unplayable as it crashed the games instantly.
Get your games, but not scrubbed.

I think mine should be all good. The X, Y and AS are rips I did myself from my own carts, and I believe everything else I ripped off of digital copies through Freeshop (may it rest in peace) back when it existed.
Also I may as well note now that I realized what I had in the screenshot earlier was probably the patches, hence the repost sorted by file size.
