>>47076538Bulbasaur is good for early game but falls off mid to late. Doesnt do well against most of the other gym leaders besides Giovanni and isnt great against the elite four.
Charizard really sucks in gen 1. Only had 85 special attack and didnt even get fly until yellow version. Does well against erika and thats about it. Fire types and attacks are almost completely useless against the e4 as well.
Blastoise is solid throughout most of the game. Water is a good neutral type with only 2 weaknesses and spammable stab. It will suffer against erika and surge but most other gyms arwnt great against water spam. It gets blizzard too which is one of the best moves in the game. Does decently against the e4 with just neutral coverage. Lorelei is an issue unless you want to toxic stall or spam body slam.
Gen 2
Cyndaquil is good only against two or three gyms, but fire is a good spammable type to have and with a special thunderpunch has really good coverage and a solid base 109 special attack to use. Does okay against the elite four with fire and thunderpunch but not good against lance.
Chikorita is hard to make work. Walled by the first 2 gyms, morty, jasmine kind of, pryce kind of (though all his mons are weak to grass) walled by Clair and cant even do well against team rocket, with their plethora of poison types. Grass coverage sucks in general bit especially in johto. The elite four is like hitting a brick wall for old flower neck. Against will only one of his mons is weak to grass, three resist, and the other is a jynx with ice punch. Koga walls the shit out of any grass type, especially apure grass type. Bruno is okay. If you are sufficiently leveled you might (might) be able to survive the torrent of fighting moves with a reflect up and eventually win by spamming razor leaf. Karen is another brick wall for grass types. Four of her five
Mons resist it. And umbreon is too bulky to die to razor leafs before sand attacking you to oblivion and confusing you. 1/2
