Abby is dark because it has an innate ability to sense wicked or ill-fated things. Most Fire Types aren't literally made of fire, but sometimes they are. You can be Fire Type and not literally fire. 90% of Dark Types are literally evil/bad, but Absol just has the special ability to sense doom.
It's like, being a certain Type usually means it gives you a special power relating to that force. So you would need to be a Dark Type in order to have the special ability to sense black fates. Dark Type seems to be a sort of black magic Type where HAVING that Types appears to be what literally causes Dark Types to have superpowers of unnaturally skilled duplicity, craftiness and underhandedness. But Absol just has black magic powers in a way that doesn't affect its behavior.
Also it has a yin yang for a face. The fact it acts good while dealing with evil things is meant to be a statement on duality
