Look at how fucking stupid the bright teal and red look in that image. The series has taken a distinct path towards cuteness since it's inception, while they do include a few edgier designs in each gen, the fan base immediately obsessed over Pikachu and Eevee, not Rhyhorn and Fearow, and the designers have pandered to the fans.
